SENIOR CITIZEN CARE: BAPUJI HOME FOR THE AGE
Vivekananda Home for the Aged was established in the year 2005 to reach out to the senior citizens who have no family, deserted by their children, widowed, unmarried, victims of ill-treatment at home, etc.
Our home provides complete residential facilities and amenities with nursing care along with access to education and vocational training. We have served over 200 senior citizens while we continue to help some of them reunite with the family members.
Currently the home provides shelter to 25 senior citizens, working towards providing them with basic amenities of food, clothing and shelter, along with continuous medical assistance and counselling. Our primary objective is to engage these senior citizens in positive thinking through various recreational activities.
- PROGRAMME OFFERINGS:
- BASIC NEEDS: The beneficiaries are provided with basic needs of food, clothing and shelter
- HEALTHCARE: The beneficiaries are subjected to health checkups twice in a week
During admission, counseling is done for the beneficiaries as well as their family
- RECREATION: Activities like yoga, gardening, indoor games, outings, infotainment, are conducted in order to engage the senior citizens
- STORIES OF CHANGE:
Parvathamma, now 67 years old, hails from rural parts of Karnataka. She was leading a good life as a home maker with a husband who took care of her and loving children. However, things changed after her husband’s death. Her children turned their backs on her and were not ready to take care of her. This completely broke Parvathamma, as the whole world came crashing around her. Morever, she had studied only till 4th standard, and also owing to the old age, she was unable to find work. The only option was to beg and she was left on the streets. This is where, Vidyaranya outreach workers found her and brought her to the same.
At the time of admission, Parvathamma appeared weak, both mentally and physically. She was assisted with the required medical assistance, and regular counseling. We were able to see a change in her health and behavior. She has adjusted well with the rest of the inmates and likes bhajans.
